This is the first Trek film I have been interested in since Star Trek: First Contact.

Ah to be young again. Remember that time in battle school?

It has been a long time coming for myself ever since I saw reports of a possible Ender’s Game movie I have had visions of the enderverse coming to life. But there were nagging questions. How to find a child actor who could convincingly play Ender? What about the huge amount of money that would be needed to recreate the book’s universe? Could they faithfully make a movie from the source material without getting an R rating thus alienating a big chunk of viewers? I got my answer make a comic. I wondered if there would be an Ender’s Game book soon after I saw wyrms come out. I thought that a EG comic would be a perfect media for the story. Don’t have to worry about actors, money. The content could be preserved as you can get away with some stuff in comics that would rate different in film. Then ultimate Iron Man came along and I knew that we were closer then ever before to a EG comic. So here we are and this book is in my hand. Let talk about it. I could not be happier with the comic. It takes word for word the first three chapters form the novel. All that’s missing is the fat so to speak, the inner dialogue. Great move by Card for insisting on that. The book as a result moves along at a good pace but covers all the most important parts. I can say at this point that one would not have to read the book to get the best of the story. This is not an adaptation. This is a translation of the novel into comic form. The one thing I could say is the exclusion of the parent’s past. That’s the one thing that could have staid in. Other then that it’s perfection. The art is amazing. The designs are perfect. The look of the book from the presentation to the colors is spot on. Great work on the formics and the look of the tech. Also the details like the third text dancing by in the school room scene. All in all this book is may favorite in the last ten years. You can not pass this one up if you ate a fan of the book. Even if you have not read this book you should really enjoy this comic. So good call Marvel for publishing this comic. I hope this will open doors for more scifi in the marvelU.

This is so far my favorite issue of the series. The story is really coming together. We find the boy in the marvel universe trying to drum up support to go back and help his town. We see his dad step up to the plate. And at the end we see that Galactus is in town. As I was reading this book I could not help but put myself in the kids place. Though I did not start reading comics until about 1990. I do have some familiarity with the time period in the marvel universe and it was a real treat to see the avengers mansion and Jarvis. Then the Baxter building and then the dayly bulgle. To things happened to me as I was reading this. One I felt like that kid the neverending story wanting to be a part of the story. To I got a bit nostalgic for the more simpler marvel times. I wanted to jump right in with the kid to the marvel universe. I would love to see some new marvel stories set in the 80s written for our time. Anyway this book was the most fun I have had in a while.

Writer: Peter David

X-Factor Penciler-Larry Stroman  Inker- Jon Sibal  Colorist- Jeremy Cox

She-Hulk Penciler- Vincenzo Cucca  Inker- Vincenzo Acunza Colorist- Barbara Ciardo

I was confused by the title of the crossover because on the cover its called “He Loves You” but on the inside of X-Factor its called the “Darwin Awards”. Fortunately the plots a very straightforward super hero meet up. But it did make me wonder why Marvel even bothered to put this one out. Mainly I think it was just so Peter David could crossover his two books and still be a part of Secret Invasion.

The storyline is just ok. Its a solid Peter David story but it wont blow you away. X-Factor is hired to find Darwin by his father who wants to get reacquainted with him. She-Hulk and her Skrull bounty hunting partner Jazinda are hunting down a Skrull “Talisman” that is connected to Darwin. In standard super hero fashion She-Hulk and X-Factor fight, after much property damage they reach an understanding and then team up to defeat the foe. Hopefully this will tie in to the bigger picture for the Secret Invasion event.

The art was very hit or miss. Most of the missing done by the X-Factor team. I usually enjoy Larry Stromans art but for these books it just felt rushed and a little sloppy at times. The She-Hulk team did a beautiful job. The art has a real clean animated look. My one little complaint is that they kind of took the Hulk out of She-Hulk. They made her look like a very tall green super model. Its a very little complaint cause I really liked the art.

Overall I cant recommend this crossover to anyone unless your a Peter David fan or need to have every Secret Invasion tie in. If your either one you will probably get these books anyway.

2 out of 5. Would have been 3 if the art were better in X-Factor.

Astonishing xmen 25 and 26 review

Warren ellis and Simon b have put together a very interesting tale the team is adjusting to San Fran well. And we come to find out that there is this graveyard of alien ships that the team has to go and confront this new type of being that us and us not a mutant. There is this strange device he has called a ” ghost box” and before they can question him he kills himself and we get the impression that there are more of his kind coming. Well I liked the story and the characters are great. The new team hq is cool and it’s nice to see the xmen not having to worry about the people In the town they live in. But this whole idea of a alien spaceship graveyard seems a bit far fetched even for the Marvel Earth. The story points out that this has been going for years and that major corps have been graving the tech. If this us true why are the only beings from earth going in space on a regular basis the meta humans? If there were a functioning ship there it would not be just floating there for anybody to go hang out in. Good story though I will continue to pick it up.

Ok I know everyone is focusing on the big events right now but there is something brewing over in ff land that more should be paying attention to. The last few issues have been very solid not only in story but in art as well. Starting with the second earth story and the rampaging robot cap. In all of this super cool scifi stuff. We get some great bg on reed and sues start and how he really feels about her. Then we see johnny getting in with a bad girl. Ben is looking at starting something new and sue is reaching out to the public. Miller has been so great with these last few stories not only with the big stuff but also with the small stuff we see the four as people not just superheroes. But that was just the beginning. In the last two issues things have been picking up speed big time. Doom shows up demanding reed talk to him we fond that he has been defeated by this mysterious group of supers. They are awesome. They take down Grimm. Next johnny breaks up with his super villain Girlfriend and then we find out that she has been roving banks to fund the secret base of the new defenders. We also find that the Richards girl is getting super intelligent. I think her new nanny is the future her. Last we see the leader is the hulk. Johnny ex show up with daddy to capture him they fight and he ends up next to doom. Then we find that they have subdued Galactus. This is my favorite storyline running in marvel at this moment. It really is cool to see new faces in this story and the revile at the end of the second part was perfect. Can’t wait to see where this story goes.

I know what you’re thinking that is this guy doing reading a kids book. Well I wanted a lighthearted story. And I got one. I also liked that terry more was writing and the interior are was good. I like the dialogue believable. The story so far mostly standard. It could change but it could stay mediocre. About story this is about mj I think we see pp about three pages and so a few times.

So the villains are amok and the heroes are fighting back yet we never see the action as this book is not about superheroes. It’s about this kid and his life and how comics affected his life. As well as how comics helped him cope with his parents divorce. the art is rough but is realistic in it’s own way. This has been a great story so far and a unusual one as well and that’s a good thing. 4.5 out of 5

Gary frank has upped his game

This storyline has been a joy to read. We find Clark looking for signs of Brainiac. We find out from Kara that we’ve never seen the real brainiac. This issue was great from the art to characterasion to diologe. The facial expressions at points are perfect at showing what is going on without words. We some great character moments between Superman and Supergirl, Lois and Clark, and Clark and his earth parents. It has also been great to see more of the past of krypton In this issue. Get on board this book now!
