Well that was a waste of time
You know I was one of those guys who really loved Joe Mad’s work in battle chasers. When I herd that he was going to be working on the ultimates I was very excited. Here was a great series and now was going to be moving into an exciting new direction. Not so far; first the story. It started off ok with some mistery. Now it has deteriated into battle chasers in the form of the ultimates.
Don’t get me wrong I liked b.c. However it didn’t work for me here. Now the art. I’m a colorist so the first thing that poped out to me was the colors. Too much poping, and as much as I enjoy mad’s pencils they don’t seem stroung enough to hold up to the colors. I’ve seen some of the pages inked and I feal it would have worked much better. I hope in his next project he goes back to using an inker. Lastly, and this could be a writing issue.
The story seems fragmented. I felt as if there were pages tworn out of my copy. Over all the book feals rushed in art and writing. It has not had enough time to deepen past the shalow pool it currently reides in. I see this as just a veical for Mad to show off his artwork. And if that is all I wanted I’d pick up my copy of Battle Chasers 1
